Once your information is submitted it will be reviewed by the Charlotte Independence Academy Technical Staff for consideration. Please note that due to the volume of interest you will only be contacted if an invitation to trial is offered. Charlotte Independence is not currently holding open tryouts for the Academy.
The academy recruitment process is managed by our scouting network and invitations will be sent to identified players to come to the club on trial. Club directors & coaches may also recommend players by contacting firstname.lastname@example.org.
Following a comprehensive review of elite player development in the United States and around the world, U.S. Soccer created the Development Academy in 2007. The Academy Program's philosophy is based on increased training, less total games, and more meaningful games using international rules of competition.
The Academy Program focuses on positively impacting everyday club environments to assist in maximizing youth player development across the country. The Academy values individual development of elite players over winning trophies and titles. The Academy sets the standard for elite environments for youth soccer clubs nationwide and is a part of U.S. Soccer's global leadership position in youth soccer that will impact thousands of players.
|Pathway, Benefits & Fees|
11-12U Pre Development Academy: The Pre Development Academy program through Charlotte Independence Soccer Club kicks off the pathway for our players interested in the Pro Development Academy teams. It serves as an introduction into the curriculum, competition and DA philosophy. The Charlotte Independence Soccer Club will have PDA programs for our 11U and 12U Boys in Matthews, Ft. Mill/Rock Hill, North Meck and Gaston/Steele Creek. This program is a 10 month program with three training sessions a week, CDL game scheduling, and USSDA sanctioned tournaments/showcases. The coach minimum requirements are the same as the full Development Academy program with coaches needing an A or B license.
13-14U Development Academy: For the 13U and 14U age groups, Charlotte Independence will have two programs—Independence North and Independence South. The teams will participate in a 10-month program with full USSDA programming including mandated curriculum with four training sessions a week, video analysis, professional environment and talent identification opportunities through league play and sanctioned events. The season will begin in August and end in June with a break during December and January. The focus on club training environments by US Soccer restricts the players’ opportunity to participate in outside activities including non-sanctioned tournaments and other sports.
15-19U Pro Development Academy: Our 15U and up boys will come together into one Development Academy program under the Charlotte Independence Soccer Club. This is the next step in the pathway to the Independence First Team. The Charlotte Independence staff will provide support and oversight creating direct identification opportunities for our players.
Teams will train 4 times a week including a Sports Performance session and can expect 16-30 games including 6-9 games in showcases. Training sessions will be held in Matthews (1 session) and Huntersville/Cornelius (3 sessions).
